Copper Mountain, USA (4 December 2015) - NZ ski racer Piera Hudson (Wanaka/Havelock North) has bagged the first win of her northern hemisphere season and claimed the first win of her career in a FIS (International Ski Federation) Super-G race at Copper Mountain resort in the USA.
Speaking after today's race Piera said, "The race went really well today, it was great to get my first win for this northern hemisphere season and my first FIS career Super-G win. The Copper speed track is a really challenging but fun hill and I'm planning to improve on my lead even more in tomorrow's race!"
The Super-G discipline (short for super giant slalom) combines the speed of downhill and the precise turning (30-35 changes of direction) of giant slalom. Racers have only one run of the course to record their fastest time.
NZ's Willis Feasey (Twizel), Adam Barwood (Queenstown) and Colbey Derwin competed in the men's Super-G at Copper Mountain today, finishing 9th, 12th and 53rd respectively from a field of 86 competitors.
