Development

Competing is a great way to test your skills, fine tune your technique and have a lot of fun skiing with your mates. Grabbing a lesson or two at your local resort or signing up to a training programme is the perfect way to get competition ready. To sign up, check out the resort lessons and programmes available throughout New Zealand here.

To get that first comp under your belt, check out our calendar or your school to see what events are going on.  Already competing?  Get your FIS License or FWT License and get involved at the next level! To see how your skills stack up nationally, sign up as a member of Snow Sports NZ then compete against your age category and rival school at the Cardrona NZ Freeski & Snowboard Junior Nationals.

The NZ Junior Nationals is an event for kids from all over NZ to compete in race, slopestyle, pipe, ski cross and big mountain. The event is a week of fun, capped with prizes, photos, videos and the crowning of the overall champions in each age group. Past winners at the NZ Junior Nationals have even gone on to represent NZ at the Olympics!

Snow Sports NZ work with coaches, the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors' Alliance and the resort programmes to deliver events like the NZ Junior Nationals in order to strengthen the level of competitive freeskiiing in NZ.

Small local resort comps provide the foundation for skill development and competition experience of getting amongst it and winning in the future.
