Corey Peters (New Plymouth) has finished in third place at the FIS Para Alpine Super G World Cup held in Italy overnight NZT. This marks Peters’ first major event podium since his exceptional double-medal performance at the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games.
Peters was pleased with his result, saying; “It's been a long time since my last podium in Beijing. It's certainly a good feeling to be back mixing it up with the top guys on the World Cup circuit.”
Conditions were challenging today – the fast course set coupled with the firm, bumpy snow surface meant the sit skiers had their work cut out of them, with plenty of athletes taking air as they flew down the course.
Super G is a one run discipline, so athletes have to go all in on that run. Jeroen Kampschreur of The Netherlands took the win by a significant margin. Norwegian Magnus Valoe Balchen and Peters fought hard for second place, with Balchen claiming second position by just -0.12 seconds ahead of Peters in third.
Peters will continue to race and train hard with his team for the remainder of the 2025 Northern Hemisphere season, with plenty more racing scheduled in Italy over the coming month.
“I'm still not back to where I want to be in the speed disciplines, particularly after the injury back in 2023. I'm continuing to work hard to get there and looking forward to finishing the season strong in the upcoming downhill events in Italy.” - Peters
With the one year-to-go mark to the 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games just one week away, this is a fantastic result from Peters. This race is the second of three back-to-back Super G FIS Para Alpine World Cup races, Peters will be back in action Thursday night NZT for the final race.
