We are delighted to announce the schedule for The GoPro New Zealand Junior Freeride Tour.
The GoPro NZJFT will comprise three events for both male and female skiers and snowboarders up to the age of 18. Each event will be a one day competition. This tour has been set up to provide NZ junior athletes with the opportunity to compete in professionally run freeride competitions. The focus is on fun, participation, and safety while skiing off-piste, along with promoting the incredible sport of freeriding.
THE EVENTS:
Stop 1 - The Remarkables, Southern Alps, Queenstown.
19th – 21st August (one day of competition, two weather days)
Stop 2 -. Mt Olympus, Craigieburn Range, Canterbury
2nd – 4th September (one day of competition, two weather days)
Stop 3 - Mt Ruapehu, Central Plateau, North Island.
23rd – 26th September (one day of competition, three weather days)
CATEGORIES:
Ski and Snowboard
Male and Female
AGE DIVISIONS:
14 years and under (on 1st June 2016)
15 - 17 years (on 1st June 2016)
EVENT FORMAT:
14 years and under age category will consist of two judged runs (weather permitting) where the best run counts
15-17 years’ age category will consist of one judged run
The athletes with the most points in each category after the completion of the 3-stop tour will be crowned the Overall NZJFT champions.
The NZJFT are extremely excited to announce that the outstanding skiers and boarders in the 15-17 year old division will have the opportunity to receive a wild card to the Junior Freeride Tour World Championship in Andorra. The wild cards will be announced at the conclusion of the tour.
Note: Wildcards will be awarded to the riders who show maturity, professionalism and skills needed to represent our nation on the world stage. These wildcards will be awarded at NZJFT’s discretion.

What is the cost?
The cost of each event will be NZ$75 (excluding license fee)
This does not include a day lift pass, though NZJFT have negotiated a reduced rate for competitors.
How do I enter?
Registration will open soon!
15-17 years’ age category: via Freeride World Tour website.
14 and under category: via Snow Sports NZ website.
What is the FWT license fee?
Competitors in the 15-17 age category must have a Freeride World Tour license. This can be purchase on the Freeride World Tour website by signing up to be a member. The license is an annual fee that FWT charges to all athletes on all levels of FWT to compete in their events. It funds the online registration and ranking system.
