Temple Basin is re-opening for the Black Diamond Big Mountain CHILL Series starting tomorrow!

It’s on! Come on up to Temple Basin for the 2012 Black Diamond Big Mountain, the final event in the 2012 CHILL Series. This truly awesome mountain in the middle of the Southern Alp’s main divide is re-opening for this event. Between the setting, the awesome conditions up high and the quality of competition it should be another visual spectacular. It’s a 2 Star Freeride World Qualifier and there’s 5-Grand up for grabs so expect some massive lines. Professional Freeskier Niel Williman is back at his home mountain as he looks to make it back onto the Freeride Wold Tour. He’ll have to work hard as up and coming Austrian Superstar Fabian Lentsch is back to try and win the title again after cleaning up in 2010. Black Diamond skier Roy Schott is another title contender along with the impressive black flipping ‘Freaky Boyz’ from France.

There’s a strong men’s snowboard division including French Boardercross Champion Antoine Blaizeau. Ruari MacFarlane is a serious title contender and is carrying good form after a win last week in the K2 Big Mountain CHILL Series. In the Female Ski division returning champion Alex Brook will have to fight hard again the European contingent including Sweden’s Tove Kockum coming of a podium finish last week and the experienced CHILL Series campaigner Julie Scott-Hansen from Norway.

The competition is set for Thursday and Friday with an invite only on Saturday on some of Temple Basin gnarlier terrain should weather and conditions permit. Following the event on Saturday Christchurch songstress Laura Hunter will play an acoustic set in Ferrier Lodge before she teams up with producer and DJ Lukas Kelly. All are welcome to come enjoy the event and after party so we’ll see you up there.
