Surprise Podium for Cross Country Skier Campbell Wright

Duntroon, Canada (15 January 2017) – Cross country skier Campbell Wright was more than a little surprised to find himself on the podium at the Ontario Cup in Duntroon, Canada over the weekend. The fourteen-year-old skier from Wanaka didn’t even have his own skis or boots with him but decided to borrow equipment from family friends and sign up for the race.

Racing went well on day one, with Campbell finishing third in the classic race, and even better on day two when he was delighted to clock the fastest skate time. With results based on combined times, Campbell finished second overall, only 0.44 seconds behind the winner.

Campbell says he’s “pretty happy” with the result and looking forward to his next race – the Eastern Canadian Championships - in early February just before returning to NZ to start the new school year.
