Snow Sports NZ and NZSki Ltd Sign Partnership Agreement

Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt have been named as the official ski area partners of the New Zealand Alpine Ski Team and will host the New Zealand National Alpine Skiing Championships in 2014 - 2016.

Signing the formal agreement between NZSki Ltd (operator of Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt) and the national sport organisation recognises the importance of the partnership in providing training and competition facilities which allow New Zealand’s ski racers to be competitive on the world stage. Snow Sports NZ recognises NZSki as a key strategic partner in the growth and success of the sport as a whole.

NZSki’s race and events staff are extremely experienced in staging International Ski Federation (FIS) standard races and ensuring good slope preparation. The National Alpine Skiing Championships are held at Coronet Peak (technical events) and Mt Hutt (speed events) during August and September each year.

“Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt are internationally recognised ski training and racing areas with Coronet Peak hosting many of the world’s best alpine skiers each season,” says Snow Sports NZ CEO, Marty Toomey. “This agreement provides members of the national team the opportunity to train and compete in a world-class arena and to train alongside and rub shoulders with the best athletes in their sport.”

NZSki also supports pathways for development level skiers as well as those who have been selected for the national team. Training lanes will be supplied for the Snow Sports NZ Junior Alpine Development Camp to be held at Coronet Peak in July and for the NZ Youth Series Speed Camp at Mt Hutt in August.

“The agreement between NZSki and Snow Sports NZ cements Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt as New Zealand’s premium alpine skiing resorts,” says NZSKi CEO, Paul Anderson. “We value the opportunity to continue NZSki’s support and development of snow sports through hosting the New Zealand Alpine National Championships at Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt and we look forward to welcoming the New Zealand Ski and Development Team members for training and racing at our ski areas.”
