Snowbird Ski Resort, USA - (12 January 2014) – Ski racer Finlay Neeson (Oakura) has won first place in men’s slalom at an International Ski Federation (FIS) race at Snowbird Ski Resort in the United States.
Finlay’s time of 1:33:76 beat Norway’s Joergen Brath's time of 1:34:03 and USA’s Bryce Astle in 1:34:17.
Speaking after the race Finlay explained that “the race at Snowbird consisted of tough conditions, with poor visibility being a factor. I executed my first run nicely, taking the lead. In the second run I was full of nerves but once again skied well, attacking in the tough conditions and taking a personal best slalom result of 26. I look forward to taking this progress and success into the next university races in Winter Park, CO and Red River, NM in early February.”
Ben Griffin (Ohakune) has also achieved a podium result, placing second in men’s Giant Slalom at a National Championship race in Reiteralm, Austria.
Ben’s time of 2:00:11 placed him second to Warner Nickerson of USA in 1:58:66. Britain’s Charles Raposo placed third in a time of 2:00:26.
