Park and Pipe Talent Identification Camp July 2015

Snow Sports NZ will be running a Freeski and Snowboard Park and Pipe Talent Identification Camp from 19-22 July in Wanaka and at Cardrona Alpine Resort. This four-day camp is part of the Snow Sports NZ selection process for the Freeski and Snowboard Park and Pipe Talent Development Squad. The camp will focus on skill development and assessment of on and off snow capabilities. Participants from this camp may be selected for the Snow Sports NZ Talent Development Squad.

  2. Physicality and Robustness
  3. Technical
  4. Mental Skills
  5. Training Approach
  • Stance and Balance
  • Movement – Vertical, Lateral, Fore/Aft, Rotational
  • Agility, Balance and Quickness
  • Recovery
  • Take off and landing techniques
  • Planning & Reflection
  • Activation/Warm Up

Camp Cost

Each athlete will need to contribute towards camp costs. Flights, accommodation or ground transport to and from Wanaka will not be covered within the camp budget, however all coaching costs will be covered. 

Camp Applications:

Athletes must complete the Camp Application Form and return it to Snow Sports NZ before 9th July 2015. 

Selection Criteria:

The following criteria will be used to guide selection for Identification Camp.

  • Ages 12 – 15 years (as a general guide)
  • Dedication to training and competing in Slopestyle and Halfpipe
  • Coaches letter of support
  • Ability relative to the Talent Development Performance Indicators
  • Performance at the following events (age, field size and field strength considered)
  • NZ Freeski and Snowboard Junior Nationals
  • NZ Freeski and Snowboard NZ resort events
  • USASA events

 

Talent Development Performance Indicators:

Male Slopestyle and Big Air

  • three 720s, all four 5s with grabs on 40+ jumps

Male Halfpipe

  • back to back 7s, at least one invert 4ft+ out

Female Slopestyle and Big Air

  • three 3s with grabs on 40ft+

Female Halfpipe

  • back to back 3s with grabs, one 5 above the lip
