NZ Juniors Round out Season with Podiums at National Champs

7 April 2014 -Freeskiers Finn Bilous and Miguel Porteous have finished off their northern hemisphere season with second and third place finishes in halfpipe at the USASA National Championships at Copper Mountain, Colorado in the US. While alpine ski racer Piera Hudson has placed second in the ladies’ Giant Slalom (GS) at the British National Junior Championships in Meribel, France in her penultimate race series of the season.

Finn’s and Miguel’s results come off the back of solid performances at the 2014 FIS Freeski and Snowboard Junior World Championships in Italy last week at which Finn claimed fifth place in the halfpipe and Miguel seventh place.

Following a delayed departure from Italy the pair only arrived in the US a few hours before the USASA competition was scheduled to start. Finn struggled in the snowy conditions and he didn't manage to put down the run he wanted while Miguel crashed on his second run but overall they were pleased with their results. First place went to Jaxin Hoerter from Breckenridge, Colorado.

Piera Hudson was pleased with her second place finish in the GS at the British National Junior Championships having also posted a career best in the previous day’s Slalom with a 37 point result.

She now has one more race series in Courchevel, France before returning home to begin preparations for the New Zealand season. Piera is pleased to have lowered her FIS points (which determine world ranking) over the past northern and southern hemisphere seasons and is looking forward to the season ahead.
