A group of six Mount Aspiring College students and two adults went to the 24th annual Kangaroo Hoppet Cross Country Skiing race at Falls Creek, Victoria, Australia at the end of August, 2014.
There were 349 finishers in the 7km, 268 finishers in the 21km and 306 finishers in the 42 km race
Overall this was a very successful trip with everybody achieving personal bests in their respective distances on a relatively flat course (training at the Snow Farm is a real advantage here), 3 top 3 placing’s in the respective age groups and one 1st place podium presentation at the prize giving. All age group 1st place getters in each of the 3 race categories are acknowledged at the prize-giving with a customary race branded mug. To add to this the fastest 3 finishers in the 7km race (Louis, Campbell and Ella) bet the fastest 3 finishers in the Australian School team’s competition by 1 second.
Summary of the results:
Louis Jones (MAC). 7km. 6th under 16 male (17th overall). 19 minutes
Ella Maluschnig (MAC). 7km. 3rd under 16 female (30th overall). 22 minutes
