Park City, USA (3 February 2016) – After two days of training it was finally time for the world’s best halfpipe skiers to start the battle for more World Cup points. Today’s qualifications at the Park City Resort saw the strong international field narrowed down to just 6 ladies and 10 men with Maddie Bowman (USA) and Kevin Rolland (FRA) finishing on top of the pack. NZ's Janina Kumza finished in fourth place to secure a spot in the finals but Byron Wells was disappointed to finish outside the qualifying criteria in 12th place.
While his style game looked to be fully on point Byron ran out of pipe on his first run and butt checked on landing, losing valuable points in the process. His second run never really came together and a crash on the first hit saw the Kiwi out of the game. Janina put together a good run and was rewarded for clean trick execution and solid grabs but will be looking to up the amplitude for a higher scoring run in finals.
Halfpipe Finals are scheduled for Saturday at 8.00am NZT.
