Snowplanet, Auckland – (5 November 2013) – The final Giant Slalom races in the Interfield series took place at Snowplanet in Auckland on Saturday 2nd November. The event attracted more than 80 competitors with Oscar Halliwell and Essadora Baxter-Mcasey posting the day’s fastest times.
Coach Brad Alwyin took on the role of course-setter and the inclusion of two excellent rolls and a turn radius of 22m resulted in a fantastic Giant Slalom course for all racers. The event also included a snowboard category which was well received.
Fastest times of the day were posted by Oscar Halliwell in the men's and Essadora Baxter Mcasey in the women's ski, both in the U16 age groups.
Sophia Ullrich and Aidan Wilkins claimed top podium spots in the U10 age group, with Francesca Masfen and Blake Hartley top in U12s. Chantelle Reilly and Will Cashmore took the honours in U14 and Josh Reilly for U18 men.
In the first timers’ division many athletes who had started their training with Brad Alwyin at the Snowplanet showed excellent improvement. Phoebe McIntosh and Finn Bawden topped the category.
Leonie Summer and Toby Murray posted fastest times in the snowboard event.
A big thanks to the crew at the Snowplanet, Robin Dixon from Ruapehu Snow Sports for the timing and the parent help from the Northern Snow Circus. The event marked a great finish to the Interfield Race series in the North Island.
