Snow Sports NZ is intent on offering developing athletes a chance to shine on the international stage at appropriate levels of competition for their age and stage of development. Selection to the Junior World Championship 2015 teams is intended to provide a stepping stone opportunity for eligible athletes to test themselves against the rest of the world in their age group. Selection criteria required athletes to demonstrate, through results or video evidence, the capability to produce a competitive run that will qualify for finals at the Junior World Champs.
At the 2014 FIS Freeski and Snowboard Junior World Championships the New Zealand team achieved a podium result in each sport. Beau-James Wells claimed New Zealand’s first Junior World Championship title, taking out the freeski halfpipe, while Lyon Farrell was the stand out performer in the snowboarding disciplines of halfpipe and slopestyle with a second and fourth finish respectively.
Snow Sports NZ wishes the athletes well and we look forward to sharing news and results in due course.
