Big Mountain Registration Opens and Freeriders get excited about winning their share of the $42,000 total prize money

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand (15 June 2012) – Registration has officially opened for the Big Mountain contest of The North Face Freeski Open of New Zealand. A total prize pool of $42,000 NZ spread across the three disciplines will certainly entice many international and local freeskiers to sign up to compete at this World Class event.

After a short delay, the registration for the Big Mountain and 3 Star Freeride World Qualifier event is open for all Freeriders looking to shred the gnar in New Zealand.

Competitors should head to www.freerideworldtour.org and create an account with the official FWT organization. Once a profile has been created athletes can then register for the TNFSO Big Mountain competition. Registration for the event costs €65 plus a €5 FWT one off event charge or an additional €20 for athletes looking to compete at multiple events on the FWQ circuit.

This is a small price to pay for a chance of winning fame and glory, not to mention a share of the total $42,000NZ total spread across Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Big Mountain competitions. “Competing at The North Face Freeski Open is a highlight of the year for me.” Said local freerider and FWT competitor Sam Smoothy “"tsʼ like a big bro down, with everyone just trying to one up each other.”

This is the second year in a row that both the Big Mountain Qualifier and the Finals have been held at The Remarkables, a ski resort close to picturesque Queenstown. The qualifiers will be held in the infamous Alta Chutes, last years finals venue and a face with plenty of options for air time. The finals will be in a new mystery venue at The Remarkables, and organizers are beyond excited to see what the competitors will put together on this huge face.

Athletes looking to register for Halfpipe and Slopestyle events should head to www.register-for-events.com as soon as possible, as spots are filling up quick and there are limited entry spots. With plenty of snow in the mountains of New Zealand itʼs time to get excited!
