Biography

On skis from a very young age, Byron Wells has a string of top level results to his name.

He was selected for the 2014 Olympic Winter team to Sochi but a training accident just days before his event kept him from competing at the Games.

On his return to competition Byron re-staked his claim as one of the world's best superpipe skiers by posting strong results including wins at the Aspen Open halfpipe in 2015 and 2016, bronze at the Canadian Open halfpipe, bronze in slopestyle at the Rev Tour and bronze in halfpipe at the AFP World Tour finals.

Byron was s elected to represent NZ at the 2018 PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and looked to be on track for a top result when he finished 4th in the qualifying rounds. Unfortunately, an accident in practice just before the start of the Olympic finals once again kept him from competing.

Other significant achievements in his career to date include sixth in Superpipe at European X-Games Tignes 2013 and fourth place at the test event for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia in 2013.

Byron landed one of the best runs of his life to claim second place in the Men’s Freeski Superpipe event at the prestigious Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, USA in December 2012.
