Canadian born Kiwi snowboarder Dane Menzies competes in slopestyle and big air. He is a member of the Snow Sports NZ Snowboard Team.
Winning the 2022 Canadian National Junior Championships Slopestyle, winning the 2022 FIS Slopestyle in Whistler, 4th place at the 2022 FIS Junior World Park & Pipe Champs, 2nd place at the 2022 Winter Games NZ STOMP Park Jam.
Dane was born in Calgary, Alberta to his Kiwi father (from Greymouth) and his Canadian mother (from Ontario). Dane first learnt to ski when he was three at Sunshine Village. Dane, following his big brothers lead, switched to snowboarding when he was five.
Dane grew up in Canmore, at the base of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Throughout his childhood he trained at Calgary Olympic Park with the Winsport training programme.
Dane thought it was an awesome opportunity to represent NZ and enjoys spending NZ winters based in Wanaka. He now trains with Mitch Brown as part of the Snow Sports NZ Team.
A particularly memorable snowboarding moment for Dane is when he was taking part in a a local game of SNOW, he was up against Andy James (a talented rail rider) and Andy didn't even manage to get a letter on Dane.
Mark McMorris is Dane's biggest snowboarding inspiration because he can do it all. Dane loves how he can ride park and film epic pow segments. Mark has always stuck out to Dane because he is one of the GOATs in the park and also tears up the backcountry too.
Dane has some big goals in the coming years; in the near future he plans to learn an 1800, make World Cup finals and get his first professional contract with a sponsor. Looking forward he aspires to continue progressing as fast as possible so he is on track to a podium finish at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.
Dane dreams of winning an Olympic medal and getting invited to the Winter X Games and Dew Tour where he wants to win gold. He also would love to have a segment in a back country snowboarding movie.
