Biography

Skiing has always been in Gustav Legnavsky's blood. He learnt to ski at the age of two at Cardrona Alpine Resort, taught by his parents who are both former competitive ski athletes.

Growing up in the terrain parks of Cardrona, Gustav always knew he wanted to compete in free skiing. He started competing before he was five years old, in local competitions and even the New Zealand Freestyle Nationals.

In 2019, at the age of 14, Gustav secured his first Australia New Zealand Cup halfpipe podium. In 2021, at the age of 16, Gustav began competing on the FIS Freeski World Cup circuit.

In 2022 Gustav represented New Zealand at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. At 16 years old he was the youngest male to compete for any nation, in any sport at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Less that a month later Gustav was crowned the FIS Freeski Halfpipe Junior World Champion, winning the Junior World Champs held in Switzerland. The following year (2023) Gustav represented New Zealand at the World Championships, finishing in 13th place in Freeski Halfpipe.
