Competing is a great way to test your skills, fine tune your riding and have a lot of fun snowboarding with your mates. Grabbing a lesson or two at your local resort or signing up to a training programme is the perfect way to get competition ready. To sign up, check out the resort lessons and programmes available throughout New Zealand here.
To get that first comp under your belt check out your local resort or school to see what events are going on. To see how your skills stack up nationally, sign up as a member of Snow Sports NZ then compete against your age category and rival school at the NZ Freestyle Nationals.
The Cardrona NZ Freestyle Nationals is a competition for kids from all over NZ to compete in race, slopestyle, pipe, boardercross and big mountain. The event is a week of fun, capped with prizes, photos, videos and the crowning of the overall champions in each age group. Past winners at the Cardrona NZ Junior Nationals have even gone on to represent NZ at the Olympics!
Snow Sports NZ works with coaches, the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors' Alliance and the resort programmes to deliver events like the NZ Junior Nationals in order to strengthen the level of competitive snowboarding in NZ.
Small local resort comps provide the foundation for skill development and competition experience of getting amongst it and winning in the future.
