Compete

Competition is one of the most useful aspects of any sport to athletes, coaches, and groups like us.  Here at Snow Sports NZ we are constantly monitoring event results to see who is performing well throughout the nation, and how they are progressing over the seasons!

Throughout worldwide snow sports, points lists are used to rank athletes and qualify for events.  FIS, WSPL and AFP are points lists used for athletes to qualify to World Cups, X games, and even the Winter Olympics!  The Freeride World Tour (FWT) handles the points lists for freeride athletes.

Get your first taste of how these points lists work by competing in National Series.  These include the SSNZ Slopestyle Series and the NZ Junior Freeride Tour.

Athletes 14 years and older are eligible for a FIS License and for the FWT Junior License.  Assuming you are ready to safely navigate the high level courses, it is a good idea to begin competing in these events.  FIS events are the benchmark event for slopestyle and halfpipe, and they are a great way to prepare for even higher level events such as World Cups, or the Olympics!  If you are a freeride athlete serious about competing, it's time to get on the New Zealand Junior Freeride tour!
