Beijing, China (15 December 2019) – NZ freeskier Margaux Hackett has achieved the best result amongst New Zealand athletes at the Air + Style World Cup in Beijing, finishing in fourth place. Zoi Sadowski-Synnott finished in eighth place in the snowboard finals.
“I’m super happy with my fourth place!” said Margaux. It is a career-best result for the 20-year-old from Queenstown.
Landing a switch right misty 900 on jump one and left misty 720 safety on run two, Margaux was sitting in third place coming into the final jump. She couldn’t get her third trick down clean and when Silvia Bertagna of Italy came through with a tidy switch left 540 mute the Kiwi was pushed back in to fourth place.
Johanne Killi (NOR) took the win, with Giulia Tanno (SUI) in second.
The women’s snowboard finals saw a shake up in the rankings with bottom qualifier Miyabi Onitsuka (JPN) storming through for victory. Afterjust eeking into the finals as the eighth-place qualifier the Japanese rider took control from the very first hit of the competition, where she stomped a perfect backside double 1080 to get the proceedings underway.
NZ’s Zoi Sadowki-Synnott, on solid form during the qualifying rounds and second in her heat, just couldn’t hold on to her landings for her three jumps on finals night and finished in eighth.
The winner of the previous two Air + Style big air World Cups, Anna Gasser (AUT) finished second, Laurie Blouin (CAN) third.
