Dry Slope Facility

What is the Snow Sports NZ Dry Slope Facility?

Snow Sports NZ is absolutely stoked to announce that resource consent for the Cardrona Valley Landing Bag Project has been approved!

By moving the landing bag into the valley and below the snowline we estimate there will be the opportunity for 160 training sessions per year on the landing bag. This is a tremendous increase on the current average of 20 session per year with the landing bag above the snowline.

In addition, landing bags have a near zero injury risk and a low impact profile than traditional on snow jumps. By providing increased training days in a lower risk environment the hope is more sustainable progression for Kiwi athletes.

Another invaluable wellbeing benefit of extending the New Zealand training window is allowing athletes to spend more time in their home environment. This is particularly beneficial to development athletes, many of whom are still high school aged and cannot afford to spend extended periods overseas. They can now progress all year round in their own backyard.
