Sean Thompson


Sean is a well-known and highly respected snowboard coach within New Zealand and internationally. His calm, quiet demeanour combined with his technical expertise have proven a winning combo. Sean is currently lead coach to Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Tiarn Collins and Lyon Farrell. He led Zoi Sadowski-Synnott’s successful 2022 Olympic campaign where she won New Zealand’s first ever Winter Olympic Gold Medal in Slopestyle and a Sliver Medal In Big Air. In the same season, he led Tiarn Collins to winning New Zealand’s first ever World Cup Crystal Globe. On top of Olympic success, other highlights include coaching Zoi, Tiarn, Christy Prior and Carlos Garcia Knight to multiple podiums at Dew Tour, X Games, the Burton Open and numerous FIS World Cups. He is one of eight coaches to be selected for the 2016 High Performance Sport NZ Coach Accelerator Programme, a highly acclaimed three-year professional development course. Sean was named Snow Sports NZ's Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2022.
