Biography

Lucia learnt to ski when she was seven years old at Cardrona Alpine Resort. Her older brother Oscar was a snowboarder, so Lucia quickly swapped to snowboarding and from then she was hooked.

After a few seasons partaking in the local school skiing and snowboarding programme, Lucia joined the Cardrona High Performance Centre and started training with her first coach Greg.

After a couple of seasons training with the HPC programme, Snow Sports NZ talent ID’d Lucia and she became part of the National Development team. In 2019, when she was 10 years old, she travelled to Colorado, USA to train and compete for the first time overseas.

Lucia had a real breakthrough season in Europe in 2022/23, where she claimed a third place finish at the hotly contested LAAX European Cup Premium Slopestyle competition. She followed this result up with the win at the World Rookie Tour snowboard slopestyle finals.

Lucia carried her momentum into the 2023 New Zealand season, where she was victorious at the 2023 FIS Park and Pipe World Championships, crowned the snowboard slopestyle Junior World Champion, the first Kiwi snowboarder to ever win this title.

In 2024 Lucia was selected to represent NZ at the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Winter Games. She medalled in both events she competed in, claiming the silver medal in snowboard slopestyle and the bronze medal in snowboard big air.

Lucia aims to compete at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter in both Snowboard Slopestyle and Big Air. She also hopes to get an invite to the prestigious Winter X Games in the coming years.

Lucia looks up to Kiwi snowboarding superstar Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and has been inspired by her amazing performances on the world stage.

When Lucia isn’t snowboarding you can find her hanging out with her dog Archie or down the local skatepark, skating with her friends.
