Simon Wi Rutene


Simon represented the NZ National Team from 1980-1998. He has represented New Zealand at four Olympic Winter Games and five World Championships. Simon is a graduate of the Whakapapa Race Programme and was originally a registered racer with Rotorua and Graduates Ski Clubs. His snow sports record includes: Australian National Champion; Champion of Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium and Luxembourg; and NZ Overall Champion 1986-1995 consisting of 17 Individual NZ Championship National titles.

Simon’s career highlights include many FIS race podiums as well as victories in Nor-Am Finals, Far Eastern Cup, and Australia New Zealand Continental Cups.

Simon is a FIS TD both Alpine and Snowboard since 2004 and was TD-Jury at the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek.  Simon attained degrees in Law and Commerce as well as a Post Graduate Certificate (Level 12) Career Counselling for Elite Sport Performers.
