Campbell Wright

Campbell has been named Snow Sports NZ Cross Country Skier of the Year every year since 2016! The young teenager had another outstanding year on the cross country tracks, pushing himself against some much older competitors and speeding away with top results. Campbell has been selected to the NZ team for the  Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games where he will compete in cross country skiing as well as biathlon.

Biography

Campbell Wright was on personal best form throughout the 2019 Winter Games ANC series.  He impressed the racing community in the Freestyle Interval race with a gutsy 7th place, one of the best ever results by a NZ junior and described by the Chief of Competition as “outrageously good”. At the 2019 Merino Muster, Campbell competed in the 21km Snow rake, winning the U18 category and finishing second overall.

In 2016 13-year old Campbell had another outstanding year on the cross country tracks, winning the men’s under 18 category in the NZ National Championship Freestyle race at Snow Farm and  travelling to Australia to compete in the Joey Hoppet where he finished second overall in the 7km race. 

During the 2015 NZ season Campbell placed first from 76 racers in the 7km Straggle Muster as part of the annual Merino Muster at The Snow Farm. In the New Zealand Age Group Championships 5km classic he was first in the U14 age group and fifth overall. At the NZ Schools champs Campbell placed first in the intermediate category and second Overall. Campbell was a member of the team that travelled to Australia for the Kangaroo Hoppet Cross Country Skiing Race. He competed in the 7km Joey Hoppet where he finished fifth from 356 competitors.
